​Congratulations to Mr Chen Xianyong Alex for being presented the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award!

For his remarkable contributions in the area of Insurtech, Nanyang Technological University is proud to present Mr Chen Xianyong Alex with the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

Mr Chen is the Founder and CEO of Asia Risk Transfer Solutions (ARTS), a Singapore InsurTech company founded with the mission of advancing inclusive insurance in developing Asia. Focused on core technologies for technology-based insurance, ARTS helps insurance companies design and underwrite new digital products in the speciality areas of Natural Catastrophe and Agriculture Risk.

Under Mr Chen’s leadership, ARTS has grown steadily since its founding in 2016. The company’s flagship product “CRES” was a finalist at the Singapore FinTech Awards 2017 and received the top innovation prize at the 7th Asia Insurance Technology Awards, one of highest accolades for technology excellence and innovation in the Asia insurance industry. CRES is currently used by insurance companies in India to provide agriculture insurance to millions of farmers across the country.

ARTS works closely with governments, regulators and development agencies across the region in designing and piloting new disaster insurance schemes. For pioneering new tech-driven approaches to natural catastrophe insurance, ARTS received the prestigious Financial Sector Technology and Innovation (FSTI) grant from the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2016.

Mr Chen has been featured by media and industry publications on the topic of FinTech and Inclusive Insurance in Asia, and has participated at major international conferences as speaker, advisor and panelist.

Mr Chen was the valedictorian of NTU’s pioneer batch of Renaissance Engineering Programme (REP) graduates and the recipient of numerous awards and accolades during his undergraduate days, including the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal 2016, Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award 2016 and Institute of Engineers Singapore Gold Medal 2016. He was also part of the NTU team that emerged first at the Royal Dutch Shell “Ideas360” International Innovation Competition in 2015.

Mr Chen is a current member of NTU’s REP Programme Advisory Committee, which provides active feedback on the efficacy of the REP, relevance of courses, new industry trends, and the evolving roles of engineers in the industry.
